As the Capitol is under siege

a man jogs in the park

a mother feeds her baby

a lover sleeps

a postman delivers a notice for jury duty

a veteran asks for change

at the red light

a pharmacist administers another cotton swab

through the glass of the drive thru

CNN calls the race

the president doesn’t call them off

& watches

as his flag is flown

over the Capitol under siege

a friend calls to check in

Have you seen the news?

she asks Do you need anything from the grocery store?

another calls

I didn’t want to be alone.

a police officer takes selfies

another hands in her badge

as congress members tweet

I’m safe

the custodial staff is left to wonder where

and a pundit does their makeup

and the Ad Man wonders

What commercial shall we play next

Matthew, living! HIV+

the most beautiful man , parts with

I love you.

while air horns ring in the streets

we knock on doors to announce

“he lost!”

before dancing in the park

under lilac (diesel) skies

we burn on grass

neighbors with free food

& psychedelics

the air tastes of celebration

& as we lose ourselves to the rhythm

we say

we are not celebrating in hate

we are celebrating in love.
